St. Ignatius College, built in 1870 next to Holy Family church (the “Prairie Cathedral”) by Fr. Arnold Damen, S.J., eventually became two present-day institutions: St. Ignatius College Prep (in the original location on Chicago’s near west side); and Loyola University Chicago (on Chicago’s north side).
